End-Of-Year Presentation
The Städelschule Architecture Class (SAC) proudly announces its 2011 End-of-Year Events taking place at the Deutsche Architekturmuseum (DAM, Schaumainkai 43, 60596 Frankfurt). The events run from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 10 July 2011 and for five days, the highly innovative and experimental work of SAC’s students will be on show at the auditorium / gallery in DAM. The central focus of the events is the reviews of the Master Thesis projects. The events also include the Günter Bock Prize Award ceremony, generously supported by Stiftung Städelschule für Baukunst, the Dean's Honorary Lecture by Professor Sanford Kwinter as well as a summer party in the Städeschule.
SAC MASTER THESIS AND FYG PROJECT REVIEWS
The reviews offer a platform for critical and reflective discussions on the work produced by the current first and second year students of SAC. The End-Of-Year review panel includes amongst others: Sanford Kwinter, Mark Wigley, Beatriz Colomina, Peter Cachola Schmal, Achim Menges, Iva Resetar as well as SAC faculty members.
First year students present their research investigations and design proposals for the London Olympic Games Information Pavilion. Second year students present their Master Thesis Projects for SESC complex in the area of Luz in the City of Sao Paulo. The thesis proposals represent the culmination of architectural research and experiments carried out during the Master candidates’ two-year studies at SAC.
The work of the SAC students is on show in the DAM first floor gallery from Wednesday 6.07 till Sunday 10.07.
Günter Bock Prize
In its fifth year, the Günter Bock Prize will be awarded to a first year student whose performance and portfolio are outstanding. The prize is named after the previous leader of the SAC, the Frankfurt architect, Günter Bock (1918-2002). The prize is generously supported by the Stiftung Städelschule für Baukunst and previous recipients are: Anton Savov (2007), Michele Albanelli (2008), Maria Kochneva (2009) and Bruno Stringheta (2010). The prize jury is comprised of the projects review panel, headed by professors Ben van Berkel and Johan Bettum.
Dean’s Honorary Lecture 2011
The Dean’s Honorary Lecture 2011 is delivered by world-renowned architectural theorist and critic Sanford Kwinter, professor at Harvard University. Kwinter was a guest professor at SAC in 2007-8. His contribution to architectural thinking and practice over the last two decades has been immense with seminal writings published in journals, magazines and books. In his lecture, Kwinter will present his most recent ideas pertaining to design culture and the way contemporary architecture can be rethought through contemporary scientific and philosophical findings.
