Antonino Saggio: URBAN GREEN LINE: AN ECOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ROME BETWEEN PAST AND FUTURE
Be sure not to miss Antonino Saggio's lecture entitled Urban Green Line. A lecture on an ecological infrastructure for Rome between past and future. Thursday the 10th of May, 19:00 in the Städelschule Aula.
Antonino Saggio is professor of Architecural and Urban Design at University of La Sapienza, Rome, holding the chair, "Architecture and Information Technology", where he also directs the PhD program in Architectural Theory and Design. His SAC guest lecture on May 10 examines new architectural design possibilities in Rome given its dense historical fabric and the potential of an 'ecological infrastructure linking past and future.' Saggio's interests in ecological strategies in architecture are set against his vast experience and background as the founder and editor of the international book series "Information Technology Revolution in Architecture", which counts 35 books on the practice and impact of computer-generated design in architecture.
Saggio has lectured and published widely. He holds a professional degree in Architecture (1979), a Diploma of Planning from the University of Rome La Sapienza, a Master of Science from Carnegie-Mellon and a PhD from the Italian Ministry of Research. He has taught in several universities in Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States, including the Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and as a Fitz Gibbon Chair Professor in 2001 at Kassel University in 1999.

Einar Jarmund: Work
Einar Jarmund, co-founder and partner in the Oslo-based firm of Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, presents the work of his office in SAC's guest lecture, Thursday 3 at 19:00 in the Städelschule Aula. Steeped in some of the best traditions in post-war, Norwegian architecture (including the influence of his one-time professor Sverre Fehn), Jarmund's practice has produced significant buildings in Norway and abroad over the last couple of decades. Combining Nordic, modernist traits with a playful, contemporary flair, the work of Jarmund/Vigsnæs is at once original and in one or another fashion contextual. To his work, Jarmund brings a keen sense of architectural value, probing both cultural and social axes of production without making these stylishly superficial.
The portfolio of Jarmund/Vigsnæs includes numerous, much published private houses, the Governor's HQ on Svalbard (1998), the Oslo School of Architecture (2001), the Svalbard Science Centre (2005) and the Ministry of Defense (2006) - the latter two both in Oslo. Current work includes both small and large housing projects.
Jarmund has lectured word-wide and been a visiting professor at Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; Washington University of St. Louis, and University of Arizona, Tucson. He is currently a visiting professor at the University in Lund, Sweden.
